Page 1 of 3 5C, MOROCCO (IOTA Op). Alfredo, IK7JWX, informs that he is preparing for a DXpedition (with 9 operators) to activate Mogador Island (AF-065) in April. 5X, UGANDA. Nick, G3RWF, will once again be active as 5X1NH. He will be
in Fort Portal in western Uganda starting March 11th for about two months.
Nick informs OPDX that he bought a (U.S.) vertical for 40 and 80 meters,
so he feels that he will do a bit better on those bands this time. However,
he will not have a 160 meter antenna (states, "there is simply not enough
room for an antenna, unless I visit my friend 5X1GS and use his antennas -
which I might well do."). He also mentions, "I prefer CW but I have now
worked over 20k CW QSOs, so I have it in mind to work some data (RTTY and
PSK31). Will work SSB whenever signals are good enough." Nick informs that
one of the problems in 5X is unreliable power (it is difficult to promise
that there will be power at any particular time). He plans to buy or rent
a car battery this trip because he will not have a vehicle to tap into.
Since he is doing voluntary work there, look for Nick on the air mainly
during the early mornings, evenings and weekends. QSL via G3RWF.
